![]() so i brought it to the local trans shop and had alot of work done to it, Kevlar bands on 1st and 2nd gears extra clutch plates on 3rd and 4th a corvette 1-2 shift servo, B and M stage 3 shift kit and a B and M hammer floor shiftier, and it's held up since then. I then bought a stock 700r4 because i wanted the OD trans. dropped in a bone stock 350, (about 250 horse) the th200r4 was the first thing to blow up and i mean it blew up. When i first got my caballero My concerns were the same as urs are now. This is my first post here!!! With many more to come!!! I love my El Camino! (in the end, I want this to again be as much of a daily driver as it ever was but with more power)Īnd I like the Overdrive on the 700 but my issue is fitment and also seeing as it had a stock 3 speed transmission will I have to do anything special with the dash and floorboard shifter? My only concern with the 350 is that I've heard they're weaker and not as reliable Now I want to change the rear end to 3.73 and the stock 200 transmission out with either a TH350 or 700R transmission. It will put out around 400 Horses compared to the 175-200 it uses now. So for now I'm having a custom built 350 to replace the stock 305. Now I can spend all my hard earned dough on the thing that matter most. I'm just now beginning to fix it up as I recently bought another vehicle for work. But this- " Think about it, why would CCC create a sticker in September 86 for an 87 that wouldnt be built till July " puzzled me as well.īottom line is the first one, the last one or somewhere in the middle at least we have one :beer. So I've had my 85 Choo-Choo SS for three years now. I agree, I too appreciate the time and effort you are putting in to this. Look in a way I hope your claim is correct, then it would make these cars worth that much more.[/QUOTE I appreciate what you are doing and would love to help out in anyway to get the true story on these cars. Think about it, why would CCC create a sticker in September 86 for an 87 that wouldnt be built till July? It just doesnt make sense. The CCC catalog clearly states 4,950 CCC Caminos made. I also think its way to early to tell people what number their car is without solid proof. ![]() I still think the numbers are still too inconsistent to verify that the re-certified sticker numbers are sequential. Thats great you are starting a database, I really wish one was started earlier! Thanks for stepping up and doing that. If unit #023 was built in January 1984, 5 months into the model year, how were the 587 units built in 1983 numbered/identified?Īll I'm saying is I have documented evidence that I didn't happen, somebody show me that it did. All these units have a "D" in there ID code. Some units were delivered late, or due do parts shortage, were completed late. They DID NOT start renumbering each model year.Įach El Camino was assigned a CCC recert decal number when CCC received notification of a unit purchase. When? had to be in June 1987 or shortly thereafter. The last decal #2300(or something) would have been placed on a 1987 model. This means that decal #001 was placed on a 1983 El Camino. One of the things I learned is that all Choo Choo Custom(Designer Series) El Camino recertified decals are in numerical order. I spoke with Joe Lombardo, CEO of Honest Charley speed shop, and former head of Parts distribution at CCC, last July (2012) for about an hour. Okay, here is what I know from my meager research so far. Also if they were sequentially numbered, why is the number 1668 if they only built 861 in 87? If you go by the information that the numbers are sequential on the re-certified sticker, it is not the last one built. That being said, I just purchased an 87 CCC and the previous owner claims it is the last CCC Camino built. I'm not sure what CCC would gain from lying about their production numbers? He did say however how many CCC Caminos were made for each year. They were still in business and the one employee explained to me that they did not keep accurate numbers and they can't verify what order they were built in. When I purchased it back then I called CCC to ask about the production numbers as there was very little information on the internet. The 86 I purchased back in 1997 is all original. I have owned 4 CCC's so far and I currently own a 19. I'm not sure how accurate some of the information is on this thread.
